The Pinehaven Sanatorium Records, 1925-1955, .5 cubic feet, consists of administrative records such as budgets (1931-1948), treasurer's reports (1946-1953), Charleston County Tuberculosis Association reports (1929-1943), correspondence (1937-1954), and press releases and statements. The "Administrative Records" folder contains items pertaining to employee schedules, a questionnaire completed for inclusion in the National Tuberculosis Association Directory, and notes on the Pinehaven Library. The collection also includes information about Pinehaven's replacement facility, the Charleston County Tuberculosis Hospital. Correspondents include South Carolina Governor and U.S. Senator Burnet Maybank and U.S. Representative L. Mendel Rivers. The materials are arranged chronologically. The budgets, treasurer's reports, and CCTA reports contain gaps in the date ranges.

The Pinehaven Sanatorium opened in 1924 under the governance of the Charleston County Tuberculosis Association. Although tuberculosis was a serious health issue at the time, the Charleston area did not have a treatment facility in the early years of the 20th century. Dr. Leon Banov, the City of Charleston's Health Officer, recognized the need for such a facility.
